A passion for cooking and a feisty entrepreneurial spirit has guided Shefali and Sharon Somani, and brought Indian and Thai cuisine to Calgary food lovers. Shefali (Shef) has always received great pleasure from making people happy through food—a passion first ignited growing up in her mother’s kitchen. She travels to Thailand to learn Thai cuisine, and continues to learn as much Indian cooking from her mother as possible.
Shef’s Fiery Kitchen opened in 2003 as a small-scale operation, selling hot curries at small local farmers’ markets and teaching private cooking classes. In 2007, she opened a stall at the Calgary Farmers’ Market. Shef called her sister, Sharon, and told her to join her in this new venture. Sharon shared her sister’s love for food and had also studied cooking in Thailand and Bali. Together, the sisters built up a thriving business selling Indian and Thai cuisine to Calgary food lovers.
Shef’s Fiery Kitchen offers Indian and Thai curries, snacks, Tandoor specialties, and handmade spice blends.
Their fresh menu changes every three weeks, offering customers a wide variety of dishes from India, Thailand, Pakistan, Burma and East Africa. Their frozen heat & serve curries are nutritious, tasty, and convenient for busy lives.
Their fresh Tandoor delicacies are made on site in their Tandoor (clay) oven.
If you’d like to create your own delicious meals at home, Shef’s has all your basic Indian spices, and a line of pastes and powdered blends hand-crafted by Shef’s team.
Shef’s uses locally sourced natural, antibiotic and hormone free beef and chicken. All their curries are gluten free, and made with fresh, high quality local ingredients when possible. The most important ingredient in Shef’s Fiery Kitchen—the love and passion for cooking that was formed in those early years in the family kitchen, a tradition that lives on with every bite.
