Lunds Organic Farm was started in 1984, with 1/4 acre of vegetables that was sold at local farmers markets. The business grew slowly as a part time business for 8 years. By then we had outgrown the land we had available, so we bought the 60 acre farm we now have. It is located at the north end of Innisfail. One hour north of Calgary. None of us had a background in vegetable production, so we had to learn fast. In 1998 it finally became a full time business and we started bringing produce to sell at farmers markets in Calgary. Currently we grow 25 acres of vegetables, and employ 6-8 people.
We grow many different kinds of vegetables, but we specialize in root crops, that we keep in cold storage, and sell throughout the winter. We are the oldest certified organic farm in Alberta, having been certified every year since 1988. We also have a commercial kitchen at the farm, where we process some of our own vegetables. We offer vegetable chips of many kinds, pickled vegetables and also frozen vegetables. All available year round at the market.
We are well known for our root vegetables, especially our carrots. We have satisfied custumers across western Canada, and even further away. Most of our root vegetables are available from August 1 until the end of May.
